I am a T-Shirt hoarder! I´ve got so many T-Shirts it is ridiculous. But i have only three or four Tank tops. For some people that might be enough, but this summer is unbearable hot and tanks are just pleasent than shirts. Plus i had three shirts i wouldn´t wear as shirts anymore and thus were perfect for experimenting.
*Ich bin ein T-Shirt-Horter! Ich habe so viele T-Shirts, dass es lächerlich ist. Aber ich habe nur drei oder vier Tanktops. Für manche ist das vielleicht genug, aber dieser Sommer ist unerträglich heiß und Tanks sind einfach angenehmer als T-Shirts. Außerdem hatte ich drei T-Shirts, die ich nicht mehr tragen würde und somit perfekt zum Experimentieren geeignet waren.
I tried three different methods…or well, two and a half (you will see why).
The beginning of this alteration was the same for all three of them.
*Ich habe drei verschiedene Methoden ausprobiert … oder gut, zweieinhalb (ihr werdet sehen, warum).
Der Beginn dieser Änderung war für alle drei gleich.
I folded the shirt into half. Pinned shoulder seam onto shoulder seam (wrong side is outward). Pinned the original neckline down and marked the new neckline. Notice: The back is nearly the same. Then i cut out the new neckline.
*Ich faltete das T-Shirt zur Hälfte zusammen. Fixierte Schulternaht an der Schulternaht (falsche Seite ist außen). Den ursprünglichen Ausschnitt festgesteckt und den neuen Ausschnitt markiert. Hinweis: Die Rückseite ist fast gleich. Dann schneide ich den neuen Ausschnitt aus.
After that it was time for the sleeves to say goodbye. I tucked one sleeve into another (again wrong side outward) and pinned the seams together. Marked where i had to cut and cut them off.
*Danach war es Zeit für die Ärmel, sich zu verabschieden. Ich steckte einen Ärmel in den anderen (wieder die falsche Seite nach außen) und steckte die Nähte zusammen. Markierte, wo ich schneiden musste, und schnitt sie weg.
I didn´t have the exact colour, but nobody will notice this.
*Ich hatte nicht die genaue Farbe, aber das wird niemand merken.
The first shirt got sewn a bit more fitting in the bust area. I cut away the excess seam allowance and serged the side seams, the armholes and the neckline.
*Das erste Shirt wurde im Bereich der Brust etwas taillierter genäht. Ich schnitt die überschüssige Nahtzugabe weg und versäuberte die Seitennähte, die Armlöcher und den Halsausschnitt.
The serged edges of the armholes got folded over once and stitched down. I repeated it with the second armhole and the neckline. It is hard not to stretch it, but i managed passably.
*Die versäuberten Kanten der Armlöcher wurden einmal umgebogen und nieder gesteppt. Ich wiederholte dies mit dem zweiten Armloch und dem Halsausschnitt. Es ist schwer, es nicht zu dehnen, aber ich habe es so einigermaßen geschafft.
The second method was to sew the openings with bias tape.
First mistake: i only had cotton bias tape. Bias Tape out of jersey would be perfect. Second mistake: i thought mixing those two materials (jersey of the shirt and cotton bias tape) wouldn´t be that big of a problem…HA! The thread didn´t liked that idea.
Third mistake: I continued till both armholes were finished…and then i took a look.
*Die zweite Methode bestand darin, die Öffnungen mit Schrägband zu fertigen.
Erster Fehler: Ich hatte nur ein Baumwollschrägband. Schrägband aus Jersey wäre perfekt.
Zweiter Fehler: Ich dachte, das Mischen dieser beiden Materialien (Jersey des T-Shirts und Baumwollschrägband) wäre kein so großes Problem … HA! Der Nähseide gefiel diese Idee nicht.
Dritter Fehler: Ich fuhr fort, bis beide Armlöcher fertig waren … und dann schaute ich nach.
The neckline was sewn with the third method. Just folding the edges twice and sewing them down…finished! That was actually the easiest method..but I did it only at the end.
*Der Halsausschnitt wurde mit der dritten Methode genäht. Einfach die Kanten zweimal umbiegen und festnähen … fertig! Das war eigentlich die einfachste Methode … aber ich habe es erst am Schluss gemacht.
And here are the other two tank tops. One is really nice and one…well…i don´t like the armholes.
*Und hier sind die anderen zwei Tank-Tops. Eins ist wirklich nett und eins … na ja, ich mag die Armlöcher nicht.
I learned a lot with this alteration! Sometimes the easiest way is the best!
